Bulgogi sandwich

You know that feeling when you're outside when all of a sudden you smell delicious meat being grilled, and you inhale the meaty scent, wishing you were grilling as well? Well, I have a recipe that allows you to make your neighbors envy what you're having for dinner that day. What we're grilling today is bulgogi, a type of Korean barbecue, but we're not just eating the meat by itself. We're putting it in a sandwich. It sounds weird at first, especially for people who are familiar with bulgogi. It's mostly eaten with rice and vegetables; so to put it in a sandwich seems a bit bizarre. But this food fusion is surprisingly good and is a different twist to the regular American sandwich.

Must marinate meat for 24 hours, so prep meat at least a day before serving.
Ingredients for meat
  • 3 lb thin cut tenderloin
  • Half cup soy sauce
  • Half cup Splenda
  • Half cup seasoning rice cooking wine
  • One tablespoon black pepper
  • One tablespoon garlic pepper
Steps
1) Mix all ingredients together
2) Cover meat and leave in fridge for 24 hours

Ingredients for sandwich
  • Baguette
  • Lettuce
  • Spinach
  • Onions
  • Carrots
  • Cucumbers
  • Tomatos
  • Cilantro
  • Fish sauce (optional)
Steps
1) Grill meat and onions for approximately 15 minutes, or until meat is cooked
2) Add meat and vegetables in baguette
3) Dip sandwich in fish sauce for added flavor, if you like

Stir fry chicken teriyaki

Whenever I go shopping at the Barton Creek Mall, I always enjoy going to the food court. There are so many options as to what I can eat after a long day of shopping. However, one dish I like to eat is chicken teriyaki from Sarku Japan. Chicken teriyaki is a classic Japanese dish that most people know about and enjoy. I tried out my version of it, adding an extra kick of Siracha sauce.

Ingredients

  • Chicken breast
  • Teriyaki sauce
  • Cooked rice
  • Siracha sauce (optional)
  • Cabbage
  • Carrots
  • Onions
  • Broccoli
  • Celery
Steps
1) Chop vegetables and put them in pan and stir fry
2) Cook chicken and add teriyaki sauce
3) Mix vegetables and chicken with rice
4) Smother it with siracha sauce if you like spicy like I do

Korean-style sushi (kimbap)

When I was younger, when my mom picked me up from school, I would have to go straight to a piano lesson, or taekwondo practice, or math tutoring. And being a kid, I would be ravenous after school. So my mom would pack me my usual afternoon snack—kimbap. Most people know this as a korean-style sushi. This tasty snack can also be incorporated into a meal. I used ingredients that I like, but it can always be modified to your liking as well. This dish was really fun to make, but it can also get pretty messy. Warning: may want to wear gloves.

Ingredients
  • Seaweed sheets
  • Cooked sticky rice
  • Spinach
  • 5 eggs
  • Imitation crab meat
  • Carrots
  • Takuan (pickled daikon radish)
  • Odeng (steamed fish cake)
  • Sesame oil
Steps
1) Cook eggs in an omelette style and chop them long ways
2) Steam spinach and shred carrots
3) Chop imitation crab meat, takuan and odeng long ways
4) Lay seaweed sheet in front of you and press the cooked rice evenly into it so that there's a thin film of rice
5) Brush sesame oil over the rice
6) Place spinach, eggs, imitation crab meat, carrots, takuan and odeng next and on top of each other
7) Roll seaweed sheet slowly so that it turns into a roll
8) Slice the kimbap so that there are many rolls
